January 28 th marks Data Protection Day, an opportunity to reflect on the importance of
ensuring your sensitive information is kept away from view. Data privacy day came about in
2008, but is not particularly widely known about. So, why do we need a day dedicated to
protecting data? Simply put, data is the most valuable thing on the devices and networks you
use, as it is completely unique to you and holds the key to your identity, your accounts and
your extremely personal information. If it becomes lost, stolen or otherwise viewed without
your authorisation, the repercussions can be devasting. For example, you might find your
